NCAA: San Beda, Mapua, LPU pick up wins
MANILA, Philippines – The men’s basketball tournament of the NCAA’s 92nd season continued on Friday, July 15, at the San Juan Arena. While teams atop the standings maintained their placings, the final contest of the day saw a winless club finally earn a W.
San Beda blows out CSB
The San Beda Red Lions moved up to 4-0 in the standings with an easy 90-63 win over the CSB Blazers.
Davon Potts led the way for the Red Lions with 19 points while import big man Donald Tankoua pitched in 17 points and 14 boards. Robert Bolick also played well with 11 points and 3 assists.
CSB, which committed 36 turnovers that led to 26 points, was led by the 19 points and 15 rebounds of Clement Leutcheu.
Mapua scrapes by EAC
Despite not having star big man Allwell Oraema (rest), the Mapua Cardinals defeated the EAC Generals, 70-67, to remain undefeated at 4-0 and atop the league standings.
Almel Orquina led the scoring for the Cardinals with 13 points while Carlos Isit and Andrew Estrella pitched in 12 markers each.
Hamadou Laminou led the way for EAC with 13 points and 17 boards. The Generals had two chances to tie the contest late, but a turnover and missed 3-ball at the buzzer by Francis Munsayac in successive possessions sealed his team’s fate.
LPU takes down JRU for first win
The LPU Pirates won their first game in 4 tries by defeating the JRU Heavy Bombers, 69-66.
Mike Nzeusseu led the way for his team with 24 points and 21 boards - 12 on the offensive glass - while Adrian Alban finished with 19 markers as LPU improved to 1-3.
JRU, which has a similar 1-3 record, was led by the 16 points and 4 boards of Ervin Grospe. Tey Teodoro also played well with 14 points but went just 3-of-13 from deep. – Rappler.com
