JRU bombs EAC to get back on winning track
MANILA, Philippines – Jose Rizal University bounced back from its disappointing defeat to San Sebastian College-Recolletos by demolishing Emilio Aguinaldo College, 67-47, on Friday, July 17 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
After suffering an overtime-period meltdown against the Golden Stags on Tuesday, July 14, the Heavy Bombers returned to their winning ways as Abdoul Poutouochi led the Kalentong-based brigade with 15 points on perfect 5-for-5 field goal shooting.
Cris Dela Pazalso likewise assailed the hapless Generals with ten points, while Paolo Pontejos and Mark Cruz had nine markers apiece to lift JRU from the slump.
Vergel Meneses’ team completely dictated the place in the second half, limiting the poor shooting Generals to only seven points in the period.
To compound the misery, EAC committed 30 turnovers and only converted 13 field goals in 53 attempts.
Sidney Onwubere carved a double-double performance as he hauled 10 points and 17 rebounds, but it was not enough to break the Andy De Guzman-mentored squad into the winner’s column.
Aside from Onwubere, Mario Bonleon Francis Munsayac combined 17 points to cover for EAC reinforcements’ lackluster outputs.
JRU improves to 2-2 in the team standings, while EAC is still winless in the ongoing double round-robin eliminations with an 0-4 record.
