NU Lady Bulldogs buck slow start to zip past Adamson Lady Falcons
NU drops the first set but wins 3 straight to earn their first win of the season

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) — The NU Lady Bulldogs picked up their first win of UAAP Season 78 after dispatching the Adamson Lady Falcons, 17-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20, in the women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday, February 6 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

Jaja Santiago exploded for a game-high 20 points on 18 kills and a block to lead the Lady Bulldogs, who needed 4 sets to break into the win column after a slow start allowed the Lady Falcons to take the first set.

Graduating Myla Pablo had 13 points while Jorelle Singh also provided support with 11 markers.

“Their problem is really their character inside, that’s the team’s biggest challenge,” head coach Roger Gorayeb pointed out in Filipino what his team still needs to work on, especially coming off a straight-set loss to defending champion Ateneo on opening day despite leading for most of the first two sets.

“They can grab the lead but later on they get lost and they lose focus. I don’t know why. There are still some things to fix.”

NU displayed better teamwork and consistency Saturday as they recovered from the first frame setback and swept sets 2 to 4 to improve to a 1-1 record.

Adamson had 4 players in double figures with Jessica Galanza leading the way with 17 points off 16 attacks and a service ace.

May Roque registered 12 markers while Mylene Paat and Mary Joy Dacoron added 11 points apiece.

Adamson, which surprised with a thrilling 5-set victory over UST last Wednesday, fell to a similar 1-1 slate. — Rappler.com
