NU holds off La Salle in 4 sets
NU uses an impressive comeback in the fourth set to defeat La Salle

MANILA, Philippines – The National University Lady Bulldogs scored an impressive victory by taking down the DLSU Lady Spikers in 4 sets, 25-16, 26-24, 14-25, 25-23, on Wednesday, February 10, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

Rallying in both the second and fourth sets to steal crucial wins, the Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-1 in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament. La Salle, a finalist last season, dropped to the same record after suffering its first loss of the season.

NU received a well-balanced scoring output from its main girls, with Jaja Santiago, Myla Pablo, and Jorelle Singh each posting 16 points in the big win.

La Salle was led by the 19 points of Mary Joy Baron, while Mika Reyes and Ara Galang registered 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs won the first set rather easily thanks to superior attacks and better care of the ball, but found themselves in a 16-9 hole in the second set.

La Salle, however, began committing errors once again, allowing NU to come back and steal a 26-24 win.

The Lady Spikers dominated in the one-sided third set, and looked like they would tie the contest in the fourth set after going ahead 20-15.

However, NU came back with an 8-1 run to take a 23-21 lead. After La Salle tied the game, Pablo scored on a critical kill to put her team ahead. On the next rally, the Lady Bulldogs scored on a service ace to seal the win.

NU out-spiked La Salle, 46-42, and took advantage of 31 DLSU error for easy points.

The Lady Spikers posted more points on blocks, 13-8, and service aces, 11-5. – Rappler.com
