UP Lady Maroons overcome UST Tigresses in 4-set thriller
The UP Lady Maroons rebound from a loss to FEU to earn a share of fourth place

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The University of the Philippines Lady Maroons redeemed themselves from a heartbreaking loss to FEU and escaped the UST Tigresses, 25-19, 25-18, 16-25, 32-30, February 28 at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

Rookie Diana Carlos led the scoring with 15 points including 8 attacks , while Nicole Tiamzon chipped in 14 markers.

UP now shares fourth place with National University as both teams hold a 3-3 record.

The two squads will take on each other on Wednesday to conclude the first round of eliminations. On the other hand, UST dropped to 2-4.

“We definitely need these kinds of games to stretch our capabilities,” said UP Coach Jerry Yee in Filipino.

But although the Lady Maroons managed to hold onto their momentum in the crucial fourth set, Yee admitted that his team still has a lot to improve.

“We still have to practice. We still have a long way to go.”

UP started strong and clinched a 2-set lead but UST rallied late to force a fourth set.

“UST is gritty and I told them not to be complacent,” Yee said.

True enough, UST put up a great fightback challenge in the deciding canto courtesy of skipper EJ Laure and the gritty Cherry Rondina.
