FEU drops the first set before winning the next 3 to strengthen their bid for a Final Four appearance

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws tightened their grip on their Final Four berth and dispatched the UST Tigresses, 20-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-20, as the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tourney resumed from the Holy Week break, March 30, at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

Bernadeth Pons scattered 20 points while Toni Rose Basas and Jerrili Malabanan chipped in 12 and 11 markers apiece for the Morayta-based squad.

“May hangover pa nung bakasyon nung first set,” said FEU Coach Shaq Delos Santos.

(We still had a hangover from the break which is why we lost the first set.)

The España-based squad may have entered the game with much energy but definitely collapsed in the latter part, registering a total of 32 errors which FEU capitalized on.

The Lady Tamaraws dropped the first canto but came back much stronger and dominated the Tigresses in the next 3 frames.

FEU also won the attacks battle with 48 spikes compared to UST’s 48.

“Hinahabol yung number 3 honestly speaking. All out na talaga,” added Delos Santos.

(We’re aiming for the third spot to be honest. We’re going all out na.)

Both Ateneo De Manila University and De La Salle University hold a 9-2 card midway in the second round of eliminations. The University of the Philippines which is having a breakout season, on the othet hand, holds the third spot with a 7-4 record.

The struggling UST side was led by Cherry Rondina with 17 points with Carmela Tunay and EJ Laure both adding 11 markers.

FEU stays in the fourth place, while UST slides to the sixth spot. – Rappler.com
