Ateneo Lady Eagles whip winless UE Lady Warriors, stay on top
MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles made quick work of the winless University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-15, 25-13, 25-11, in the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday, April 6, at the FilOil Flying V Arena.
The defending champions cruised from start to finish, improving their record to 11-2 and also gaining a twice-to-beat advantage for the semifinals.
Alyssa Valdez led the pack with 17 points while Jhoana Maraguinot contributed 13 markers. Setter Jia Morado recorded all 27 excellent sets for Ateneo.
The Lady Eagles clobbered the Lady Warriors in the attacks battle with Ateneo's 41 compared to UE's 14.
Ateneo has one more game to seal the elimination rounds with archrival De La Salle University on Sunday, April 10, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
"It's a good game for us. Hopefully, the win today gave us confidence," Valdez said.
She added that her team needs to prepare in order to win their second outing against La Salle, which defeated them in the first round.
"The excitement is always there. We just need to stay calm, focused, and happy," Valdez said.
UE, meanwhile, has one more game against Adamson University on Wednesday, April 13.
