(UPDATED) Thirdy Ravena delivers on 3 clutch baskets late to hold off the Tamaraws

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Ateneo Blue Eagles continued to roll in the second round of UAAP Season 79, thanks to a hot-shooting performance which helped them get past the FEU Tamaraws, 74-59, on Wednesday, November 9, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

The win was critical for Ateneo, which is now tied with FEU at 8-4 for the second seed and remaining twice-to-beat advantage in the standings. It was the second time this season the Tamaraws lost to the Blue Eagles, who lost all 3 games against the Tams last season.

Thirdy Ravena led Ateneo in scoring with 15 points to go with 11 rebounds. Although he shot only 4-of-12 from the field, the brother of former UAAP MVP Kiefer Ravena converted two shots in the fourth period which helped put down FEU.

George Go added 14 points and 7 boards for the Blue Eagles, while Adrian Wong accounted for 12 points.

Monbert Arong led FEU with 15 points while Prince Orizu registered a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Raymar Jose also filled up the stat sheet with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Ateneo out-rebounded FEU 51-48 and had more assists, 15-11. The Blue Eagles also limited the Tams to 26% shooting from the field.

After Jose scored on a put-back to cut Ateneo’s lead to 7, Ravena hit the two straight lay-ups to put his team ahead by 11 with two minutes remaining.

On the next Blue Eagles play, Ravena assisted Go on a basket which was the nail in the coffin.

The Blue Eagles have now won 4 straight games, while the Tamaraws dropped their second straight. – Rappler.com
