(UPDATED) NU's win eliminates UST before the Golden Tigresses game against DLSU begins

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED)– The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers swept the recently-eliminated University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22, on Sunday, April 8, at the Filoil Flying V Center.

After the Tigresses cut the deficit to one, back-to-back blocks by Kim Dy and Majoy Baron gave DLSU a 3-point cushion in the last stretch of the 3rd set. The Lady Spikers were two points away from taking the match until Sisi Rondina’s back-to-back attacks made it a one-point game again.

Kim Dy nabbed match point and May Luna completed the straight-set domination for DLSU.

The Lady Spikers improved to 10-2 while the Golden Tigresses fell to 4-9 in the UAAP Season 80 Women’s Volleyball tournament.

DLSU is one win away from clinching a twice-to-beat advantage.

Dy led the Lady Spikers’ balanced scoring with 12 points off 8 spikes and 4 blocks.

Rondina exploded with 23 points off 21 spikes, one block, and one ace, while making 11 excellent digs.

The Tigresses had the upper-hand over the Lady Spikers in the first set as they were two points away from taking the first set with a 4-point lead, 23-19.

The defending champions snapped out of their slow start with 6 unanswered points that closed out the first set to their favor.

DLSU made up for their slow start in the first set with a strong 6-1 lead in the second set. The Golden Tigresses still challenged the Lady Spikers as they tied the score at 19-all.

UST’s efforts failed to edge out the Lady Spikers as Dy denied Milena Alessandrini for the 2-0 advantage. – Rappler.com
