MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle University Lady Spikers are on the verge of a season sweep after crushing University of the East in straight sets, 25-16, 25-15, 25-14, in the 76th UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament, Wednesday, February 12 at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Spikers played like a well-oiled machine as they efficiently finished off the Lady Warriors for their 13th win in the season to tighten their grip of the top spot ahead of their all-important matchup with second placer National University on weekend.

Cyd Demecillo tallied in a game-high 10 markers with Abi Marano and Mika Reyes scoring eight apiece but it was Kim Fajardo’s performance which stood out as she finished with 29 excellent sets on top of her five points off two blocks, two aces, and one attack.

The Taft-Avenue side made short work of the struggling Lady Warriors squad as they cruised to a 25-16 first set win, scoring 13 points off UE’s errors while also raining nine attacks against their foes’ only five.

La Salle, gunning to benefit from a stepladder postseason, went on to pound UE as they banked on their balanced scoring and pulled away with a 12-3 run en route to a 25-15 second set win.

UE simply wilted down in the third set as they still could not find their game against La Salle’s second stringers to hand the Lady Spikers its 13th straight Season 76 win via a 25-14 third frame win.

Shaya Adorador led the Red Warriors this afternoon with 7 points but it was not enough as they stay the only winless squad this season, absorbing their 13 straight defeat in the hands of La Salle.

UE will try to salvage some pride against University of the Philippines in their last outing this year on Saturday, February 15 while La Salle will be protecting their winning run against the chasing Lady Bulldogs – who are currently 12-1 – on Sunday, February 16. – Rappler.com
