The University of Visayas Lancers down the Arellao Chiefs while National University overcomes Southwestern University

MANILA, Philippines – The University of Visayas Lancers continued their impressive play in the Elite Eight round of the 2014 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) on Sunday, November 16, by taking down the Arellano Chiefs, 95-88, at the Cebu Coliseum.

UV, which now improves to 2-1 in the Elite Eight round, leaned on the stellar play of Franz Arong, who finished with 29 points. John Abad and Steve Akomo also pitched in, combining for 33 points in their team’s second straight victory.

The Lancers took a 10-point lead to the half thanks to Arong, who scored 15 of his 29 points in the second period.

Arellano trimmed their opponents lead to six, 64-58, entering the final quarter but was unable to contain the scoring of the Cebu-based Lancers, who put up 31 markers in the fourth quarter.

Arellano guard Jiovani Jalalon spearheaded his club with 26 points. Reigning NCAA men’s basketball Rookie of the Year Dioncee Holts struggled for most of the game, recording just 9 markers while Levi Hernandez put up just 4 points.
