Kiefer Ravena, Mika Reyes ‘on a break’ to concentrate on careers

MANILA, Philippines – Celebrity sports couple Kiefer Ravena and Mika Reyes have decided to take a break from their relationship as both plan to concentrate on their respective athletic careers, Rappler learned on Friday, May 29.

A source with knowledge of the situation told Rappler that the two have decided to take a break, which was later on confirmed by Ravena himself.

“Yung mga fans, na no-notice nila na for the past 3 weeks, na hindi na sila nag po-post nang sweet messages [on social media],” the source said.  

(Fans have noticed that for the past 3 weeks, they haven’t been posting sweet messages about each other.)

“Wala silang much time for each other,” he said, noting how Ravena’s busy basketball schedule has taken most of his hours over the past few weeks.

Ravena, the reigning MVP of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament, trains two hours a day with the Ateneo Blue Eagles from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and then heads for 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm practices with the Gilas Cadets, which will represent the Philippines in the basketball competition of the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore in June.

“I’m just too preoccupied with basketball right now,” the fifth-year Ateneo player Ravena told Rappler in a text message. “Since it’s gonna be a crucial year for me – that’s just the reason why we’re on a break.”

There has been many speculation on social media on Friday about the situation of the two popular collegiate athletes, which, according to Ravena, has included angry sentiments from some fans. 

“I guess people assume too much and take a hit on my friends or even common friends,” he said. “But they are entitled to whatever they say or think about.” 

The source said that Reyes, an incoming fifth-year veteran for the DLSU Lady Spikers in the UAAP women’s volleyball tourney, and Ravena remain on good terms. 

Reyes’ Lady Spikers, who won 3 straight UAAP titles from 2011-2013, have fallen to the Ateneo Lady Eagles in each of the past two women’s volleyball finals.
