Green Archers asked to shut phones, lay off social media before UAAP Finals

MANILA, Philippines – The DLSU Green Archers have been asked to shut off their cellular phones and lay off their social media accounts a day before Game 1 of their UAAP Season 79 final series against the Ateneo Blue Eagles, a source told Rappler on Friday, December 2.

The idea was requested by La Salle head coach Aldin Ayo, who asked for approval from management before it was implemented.

The Green Archers, who usually stay at their dormitories in campus, are also going to be stationed at a hotel near the Mall of Asia Arena, where the first match of the best-of-3 series against Ateneo will take place.

According to the source, the rules are being implemented so that players of La Salle can get to sleep early before Saturday’s contest and for team bonding.

The source continues that La Salle also had visits after practice on Friday from two former Green Archers in Dino Aldeguer and TY Tang, both of whom won titles for the university in the past.

Aldeguer is famous for his 3-pointer near the end of regulation in Game 3 of La Salle’s 1999 UAAP final series against UST which sent the game to overtime, where that year’s Green Archers sealed the title.

Tang, meanwhile, was one of DLSU’s key players in its 2007 run to the UAAP championship. 

The duo was brought in by management with the goal of motivating this year’s roster.

La Salle has lost only once this UAAP season, but its lone loss was against the team the Green Archers have to defeat in the finals.

The Blue Eagles, on the other hand, are entering the championship series having won 7 of their last 8 games. – Rappler.com
