La Salle’s Van Opstal not suspended, given ‘stern warning’

MANILA, Philippines – Arnold Van Opstal of the De La Salle Green Archers escaped suspension and was let off with a “stern warning,” said UAAP Commissioner Andy Jao Wednesday, July 23, for throwing a punch at Ateneo Blue Eagles center Alfonso Gotladera during their teams’ game last Sunday, July 20.

After a review of the tape showing the play and a meeting with Van Opstal on Tuesday, July 22, Jao decided the La Salle bigman will not be suspended and will play in the team’s game against the NU Bulldogs on Wednesday, July 23 at 4PM. 

Van Opstal previously took to Twitter to declare he never had any intentions to hurt Gotladera.

Meanwhile, Don Trollano Jr. of the Adamson Soaring Falcons will be suspended for their next game against the UST Growling Tigers after incurring a disqualifying foul in their previous game against the UE Red Warriors.

UAAP rules state that an ejection from the game automatically merits a suspension in the team’s next game unless the Commissioner rescinds it upon review. – Rappler.com
