MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle Lady Spikers had no plans of establishing a two-game losing streak on Wednesday evening, January 21, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Close to two weeks after suffering their first defeat of the UAAP Season 77 women’s volleyball tournament in a five-set championship rematch loss to the Ateneo Lady Eagles, La Salle returned to the winning track by defeating the FEU Lady Tamaraws, 25-17, 27-29, 25-14, 25-9, in the opening contest of their second-round campaign

The game looked anything but an easy victory for La Salle at first, as they barely held off a pesky FEU team that was within only two, 8-6, in the early goings of the match. But thanks to the strong play of Ara Galang, La Salle built a 16-9 lead en route to attaining the first set.

FEU had a 23-21 lead late in the second set before allowing the Lady Spikers to rack off three straight points. Unfortunately for La Salle, they failed to attain a game-sealing conversion and let the Lady Tamaraws tie the game at 24-all. Both clubs then exchanged scores, with FEU becoming the first to rack up two quick conversions that helped them win the set, 29-27.

It was all DLSU from there on out, as they established a 16-10 lead to easily take set three. In the following set, La Salle quickly went ahead 8-0 and never looked back en route to their win.

DLSU was led by Galang, who had 17 points. Cyd Demecillo and Kim Fajardo also played well, putting up a combined 23 markers. Mika Reyes finished with 10 points.

Bernadeth Pons spearheaded FEU with 13 points.

DLSU had more spike points than FEU, 52-41, more block points, 10-2, and more service aces, 9-6. They also forced 32 points out of Lady Tamaraw errors.
