MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University moved one step closer to the bronze medal in the Shakey’s V-League 12 Collegiate Conference after defeating the University of Sto Tomas in 4 sets, 25-17, 25-17, 10-25, 25-20, in game one of their best-of-3 series on Saturday, September 19, at The Arena in San Juan.

Led by the 16 points of Bernadeth Pons in the first game, FEU now has an opportunity to bag third place when they face UST in game two on Saturday, September 26. 

Saturday’s contest lasted an hour and 49 minutes in front of 561 spectators.

Jovelyn Gonzaga played well for the victors, finishing with 11 points while Toni Rose Basas and Honey Royse Tubino registered 7 points each.

The Growling Tigresses were led by Pam Lastimosa and EJ Laure, who put up 12 points apiece in the defeat. Carmela Tunay put up 9 points while Marivic Meneses had 8 to help out.

FEU won the spikes battle, 50-36, to make up for the 33 points they awarded to UST via errors.

UST also had more block points than their adversaries, 8-5, but that was cancelled out by the 5-2 service aces advantage of FEU.

FEU also did a much better job with digs, finishing with 46 excellent ones to UST’s 29. The winning side also had more excellent sets, 30-20.
