MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Foton Tornadoes are one win away from retaining the title in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix after prevailing over Petron in 5 sets, 20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-9 on Thursday, December 8 at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
Foton will have a chance to close out the finals in Game 2 on Saturday, December 10 at 5 pm at PhilSports MultiPurpose Arena.
Fans were handed a short scare in the second set after Jaja Santiago hurt her right foot following a bad landing. The Foton standout appeared to be limping when she walked back to the bench, but ultimately suited up for action in time for the third outing.
The Tornadoes seemed to gain more confidence following Jaja’s return as they managed to extend the match to a fifth set, outscoring the Blaze Spikers 13-7 in attacks.
Lindsay Stalzer finished with 30 markers for Foton, while Stephanie Niemer had a game-high 32 points for Petron.
Earlier today, the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers formally clinched the third place finish after surviving another grueling 5-setter over the RC Cola Army Lady Troopers.
