Santiago-Manabat finished with a game-high 24 points, while her sister Jaja Santiago scored 15 and Myla Pablo pitched in 18 in the win. 

Diana Carlos led UP as their lone double-digit scorer with 12 points. Maria Molde, Marian Buitre, and Justine Dorog each registered 9 markers in the loss, where UP won the first set but dropped the next 3. 

After UP sealed the first set following a Molde drop, they raced off to a quick 4-0 lead to open the second period. NU responded with 4 points of their own to tie the set, and then later on went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-10 lead. 

NU was in control for the rest of the set and eventually tied the game at 1-1 after a kill by Santiago-Manabat.  

The third set was closer with UP going ahead 18-17 following an ace by Dorog, but NU responded with an 8-3 run to win the set tie the contest at 2-1. 

UP trailed by 2, 14-12, halfway through the fourth set before a 4-0 run by NU changed the complexion of the period. 

Although a glint of hope was present for UP following consecutive errors by NU that made the count 19-16, the Santiago sisters spearheaded a 6-2 run that sealed the set and game. 

NU had 52 spikes overall compared to the 31 of UP, who played without UAAP starters Nicole Tiamzon and Kathy Bersola. Both teams were equal in terms of errors, with NU giving up 28 points and UP surrendering 27. 

NU will be back in action on Sunday, July 19, when they take on University of Batangas, while UP will aim to go 1-1 against Polythentic University of the Philippines on Saturday, July 18.
