Volleyball star Alyssa Valdez will lead the athletes' commission of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) alongside members Abigail Maraño, Denden Lazaro, and Johnvic de Guzman.
The 4 volleyball players got appointed as the PNVF laid the groundwork for its plans for the national team with the induction of its officers on Wednesday, February 10.
Tony Boy Liao will serve as the chairman of the national team department, having been chosen for his experience and involvement when the women's team won the Philippines' last Southeast Asian Games gold medal in 1993.
Liao also managed La Salle and Ateneo in the UAAP.
"He has a vast experience in managing teams and players and is highly-versed on volleyball rules," said PNVF president Ramon Suzara about Liao.
Former fencing national team member and Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez will assist Liao as the secretary of the national team department.
Other appointees include Richard Palou (deputy secretary general for international affairs), Roger Banzuela (deputy secretary general for member relations), Carmela Gamboa (events council), Jerry Yee (technical and coaches), Prof Robert Calo (refereeing and rules), Karl Geoffrey Chan II (development), and Donald Caringal (marketing).
Also assigned as heads were Charo Soriano (beach volleyball), Benson Bocboc (VIS), Dr Jose Raul Canlas (medical), Rodrigo Roque (finance), and Fr Victor Calvo (legal and ethics). – Rappler.com
