MANILA, Philippines - The men’s volleyball team of the Philippines got off to a good start in the 28th Southeast Asian Games after they took down Malaysia in 4 sets, 20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19, at the OCBC Arena in Singapore on Wednesday, June 10.
Ateneo standout Marck Espejo led the Filipinos with 17 points, while John Vic De Guzman registered 14. Rex Intal also played well, recording 12 points while Andre Pareja had 9 markers.
The Philippines took advantage of 29 Malaysian errors that resulted to points and recorded 40 sets. They also had more blocks than their opponents, 8-4, and registered more spikes, 55-49, in the one hour and 50-minute long match.
The men's team is seeking its first podium finish since 2005, when they won bronze on their home soil.
