The Philippines’ Jayrack De la Noche and Alexander Iraya crashed out of the Third Asian U19 Beach Volleyball Championships after falling prey to Iran 2 duo Amir Reza Zamani and Armin Kami, 12-21, 16-21, in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, on Monday, July 5.
Seeking to force a decider, De la Noche and Iraya stayed within shouting distance in the second set, 11-14, before Zamani and Kami pulled away for the sweep victory.
The Filipinos, backed by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation and the Philippine Sports Commission, wrapped up their pool play campaign with a 0-2 record.
“We will bounce back next time, we will be a better team,” said De la Noche, who is coached by Dondon Verayo and Teshi Ea.
Iran 2, meanwhile, tallied a 1-1 card and advanced to the quarterfinals with unbeaten Thailand 1 in Pool A.
Up next for De la Noche and Iraya is the Fourth Asian U21 Beach Volleyball Championships on July 12, also in Nakhon Pathom.
All three Thailand teams made it to the quarterfinals, which also features two Iran pairs, two Kazakhstan squads, and an Australian duo. – Rappler.com
