MANILA, Philippines – The PetroGazz Angels bounced back from their first loss in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference by sweeping Pacifictown Army, 29-27, 25-20, 25-14, on Sunday, June 23, at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.
The Angels reclaimed the solo lead at 8-1 while the Lady Troopers remained at 3rd place with a 4-4 record.
Coming off a loss to defending champion Creamline Cool Smashers just a day earlier, PetroGazz still showed signs of fatigue at the start of match as Pacifictown managed to extend the opening set.
Janisa Johnson and Wilma Salas combined for 43 points to lead the PetroGazz Angels.
Although the Angels edged out the Lady Troopers for the hard-earned 1-0 set win, Pacifictown stayed within striking distance before PetroGazz pulled away to close out the 2nd set.
By the 3rd frame, PetroGazz got its groove back and stretched the lead to as many as 10 points, 22-12 before sealing the win in dominant fashion.
Olena Lymareva-Flink was the lone double-digit scorer for Pacifictown with 16 points.
Earlier, Banko Perlas ended its losing streak with a come-from-behind, five-set win over Motolite, 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 17-15.
Motolite looked poised to add to the Perlas Spikers' woes with a straight-set drubbing, but the veteran presence of Nicole Tiamzon and Kathy Bersola lifted Banko Perlas past the debuting PVL team.
Tiamzon fired a team-high 19 points off 18 attacks and 1 ace to go with15 excellent digs, while Bersola chipped in 17 points.
Banko Perlas managed to cancel out Motolite import Channon Thompson's 30 points and Krystel Esdelle's 27 points.
Tonnie Rose Ponce, though, gave the Power Builders a fighting chance down the stretch as she made 17 excellent digs and 21 excellent receptions. – Rappler.com
