Bea de Leon powers Choco Mucho to a winning start in the PVL Open Conference following a four-set conquest of struggling PLDT

After two postponed games, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans finally saw action in the 2021 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference, and came away with an up-and-down four-set win over the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters, 28-26, 10-25, 27-25, 25-11, on Wednesday, July 21.

Bea de Leon led the Ateneo alums’ debut charge in the Bacarra, Ilocos Norte bubble with 18 points off 15 attacks, 2 blocks, and 1 ace to win Player of the Game honors.

Kat Tolentino also chipped in 18 markers off  17 attacks, while Deanna Wong anchored the floor with 26 excellent sets, 13 excellent digs, and 4 points.

Off a horrendous second set where they fell hard, 10-25, Choco Mucho looked headed for a 1-2 hole after PLDT led until the late stages of the third frame, 22-18.

However, Tolentino and Wong paced their squad well and went blow-by-blow against Isa Molde that led to a 27-25 finish for the Flying Titans.

That was all the momentum Choco Mucho needed as they then ran roughshod over the disconnected PLDT defense with a game-sealing 15-3 blitz that turned a 6-4 lead to a 21-7 blowout in the fourth set.

Molde and Jorelle Singh led all scorers with 19 points apiece, with Singh doing most of her damage in the lopsided second set.

The Flying Titans will look to soar ahead from their winning debut as they next face the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors on Friday, July 23, 3 pm.

Meanwhile, the Power Hitters, still winless in three attempts, will get the rest of the week off while the league’s schedule is reworked anew to reintegrate the isolated Perlas Spikers. – Rappler.com
