Two-time V-League champion Tina Salak returns to action after two years

Decorated setter Tina Salak has decided to come out of retirement a second time to turn pro with Chery Tiggo, according to the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

The two-time V-League champion, now 44 years old, surprised head coach Aaron Velez, who already had her on his staff as an assistant coach.

“It’s really an honor and privilege to coach the legendary Tina Salak. I didn’t expect it at all,” said Velez. “The decision to include her in the roster was sudden but a good decision, I would say.”

Salak, who initially retired in 2016, last played in 2018 with Cocolife in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) before retiring a second time to coach the De La Salle-Zobel (DLSZ) girls’ volleyball team in the UAAP.

She was then included in the national team formation committee of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) in addition to her coaching duties.

Salak is expected to boost a Chery Tiggo side that will reportedly miss Laure sisters Eya and EJ, who opted out of the bubble conference. – Rappler.com
