Alyssa Valdez gives tips on how she financially sustains herself even beyond her volleyball career

Beyond leading and inspiring Filipino athletes and fans, volleyball star Alyssa Valdez also sets a good example to everyone on how to future-proof their finances.

With the country’s skyrocketing unemployment rate due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Creamline Cool Smashers cornerstone gives tips on how to get started on securing your finances and investing.

How did you adjust in the pandemic with regards to earning income?

Alyssa: I would say I’m thankful for all the investments I had before the pandemic. I did make some naman, and those really helped me while adjusting to the new normal.

Though I still looked for different ways on how to earn during the pandemic, and one of those is candle making. Of course, looking forward to the coming years, I’m still thinking of other things to do to prepare me for the future, even after the pandemic.

Did you adjust your lifestyle due to the pandemic?

Alyssa: I would love to say that I’ve never changed anything since I am super simple, really. I just really want good food after a tiring practice.

So I guess now I appreciate homemade food even more. I can save money and enjoy good food every single day. I really just live a simple lifestyle, so any adjustments I made were small lang naman.

What is your best advice to future-proofing your life financially?

Alyssa: It’s always best to spend less than you earn, but more than that, it’s also always good to prepare for any eventuality, especially bad things that can happen.

I have protected myself with an Allianz health plan called Allianz Well!, for example. Of course I do my best to keep healthy through exercise and proper diet, but nobody knows if we will get sick, right? If I get sick  and hospitalized, I know that my policy will protect me financially.

I also got Allianz Shield for my parents because I want them protected also. It has life protection, but also critical illness and accidental death benefits. So they are also covered.

In the new normal, what are some ways millennials can boost their sources of income?

Alyssa: Make sure to invest in a stable and professionally run company. The reliable one, with a good reputation, and not fly-by-night.

Because there’s really no guarantee that all investments will go well. You wouldn’t know if it will profit because unfortunate things can happen too. – Rappler.com
