SanDisk to launch Extreme, Ultra high-capacity microSD cards
The new 256GB microSD cards both have high capacity as well as fast read and write speeds

MANILA, Philippines – SanDisk is out to provide action video fans and drone camera operators with a new reason to take a ton of footage.

The company last Wednesday, June 29, announced it was releasing a new line of 256GB microSD cards.

These include the 256GB SanDisk Extreme microSDXC UHS-I card, which is the fastest microSD card in its class, and the SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card Premium Edition, the first mainstream model among 256GB microSD card types.

The SanDisk Extreme can store up to 14 hours of 4K video. It also has a read rate of 100 Megabytes per second (MB/s) and a write speed of 90 MB/s.

The SanDisk Ultra, meanwhile, has a slightly lower read speed of 95 MB/s, but can still take in about 24 hours of full HD video.

The SanDisk Extreme is slated to come out in the US in the fourth quarter of 2016 for $199.99, while the SanDisk Ultra is set for an August release and is priced at $149.99. – Rappler.com
