MANILA, Philippines – Local telco Globe discontinued the sale of Samsung’s Galaxy Note7 following the phone maker’s announcement to stop making the said model.
Samsung’s announcement came after a number of replacement Note7 units – supposedly free from the exploding battery issue that plagued the original batch – reportedly exploded.
Globe also said that it has stopped issuing the replacement Note7 units and will instead be providing “a device of equivalent value” to their Note7 buyers. Their official statement appears below:
“In support of the recent announcement of Samsung, we wish to inform our customers that effective immediately Globe will discontinue selling Samsung Note 7 and will no longer issue same device replacements to customers. We have implemented a process to retrieve Note 7 units from customers and replace them with a device of equivalent value. We are taking this matter seriously and will do everything we can to keep our customers from harm when using our service. We will be in touch with our customers within the next 4 days.”
Smart, on the other hand, has advised its affected subscribers to contact Smart via their hotline number *888 or to go to the Smart Store or Smart representative from which the Note7 was obtained. Smart’s advisory was posted on their Facebook page, Tuesday, October 11.
For Note7 units bought from authorized dealers outside of Smart and Globe, Samsung Philippines has advised affected customers to reach out to their place of purchase. They have the options of exchanging their Note7 for a Galaxy S7 Edge or requesting for a full refund. For the first choice, the store will reimburse the price difference between the Note7 and the S7 Edge.
