Users of the messaging app can download their chat history before its shutdown

MANILA, Philippines – Yahoo Messenger, one of the first instant messaging apps to gain popularity, is shutting down on July 17.

According to a support page post on Yahoo, there isn’t a direct replacement application for it, though the tech firm is trying to entice people to sign up for a group messaging service called Squirrel.

Yahoo Squirrel, however, is in an invite-only testing phase at the moment. Users can apply to test for it here.

The company added that Yahoo IDs are still usable for other services like Yahoo Mail.
