MANILA, Philippines – Vine, the social video-sharing app, came out with version 1.0.5 on Wednesday, February 6. Along with this update’s changes is a revision to the app’s age rating.
According to the iTunes page for Vine, the app now has a 17+ age rating, bumped up from a 12+ rating. The Verge reports the app now requires you to confirm your age and informs you of age-gated material that shows up on the service.
In terms of actual app changes, two new features have been noted in the change log: the ability to share videos after posting, and the ability to report or block profiles they dislike.
To share videos to Twitter or Facebook, all a user has to do is get to the post and tap the “…” on the bottom right. Profile reporting and blocking is the same, with users needing to go to the profile and tap the “…” button on the top right.
While the age-gating lessens the potential userbase of the application, the change seems to be primarily cosmetic, as clicking in agreement is all that’s needed to get past the age gate.
Vine was previously in hot water with Apple due to the proliferation of pornographic content on the service. It was previously reported as policing its searches to curb the spread of pornography. – Rappler.com
