MANILA, Philippines – When it comes to free educational content, iTunes U helps educators around the world with augmenting their courses with up-to-date information. On Thursday, February 28, Apple announced cause for academic celebration, as iTunes U content downloads breached the one billion mark.

In their announcement for the achievement, Apple noted the a large adoption rate for courses, creating change in how students learn in the digital age. Apple also noted the international audience of iTunes U, saying more than 60% of iTunes U app downloads come from outside the US.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services says of the initiative, “With the incredible content offered on iTunes U, students can learn like never before – there are now iTunes U courses with more than 250,000 students enrolled in them, which is a phenomenal shift in the way we teach and learn.”

To acess the free educational content available on iTunes U visit the iTunes store either via the iTunes desktop app or your iOS device, click on iTunes U, look for a course, then download the module you would like to watch and/or listen too. Rappler.com
