The announcements and trailers at EA Play ahead of E3 2019
(UPDATED) We get our first glimpse of 'Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order' gameplay, a new 'Apex Legends' season, new 'Battlefield V' details, and a lot more

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Electronic Arts (EA) hosted their annual EA Play press conference this year at Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, June 8 (June 9, Manila time), a day ahead of E3’s official kickoff

While there weren’t really any big surprise reveals, EA managed to deliver on their promise of showcasing gameplay for its upcoming titles and expansions.

Here’s what’s been revealed at the event:

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order

EA kicked off the show by unveiling the over 15 minutes of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order gameplay.

As main character Cal Kestis, you, the player, have access to an array of Jedi abilities. You can charge at your enemies with your lightsaber. You can also use it to deflect blaster fire. You can even pull your enemy towards you before ultimately stabbing them.

Knowing how to best deal with different enemy types with all your abilities is what developer Respawn Entertainment describes as the “thoughtful combat” of the game. The game also featured a new “Slow” force power that lets Cal slow down objects or people for a short time.

Apex Legends Season 2

Apex Legends Season 2 will be called Battlecharge and will feature a “new” gun and a new character, in addition to ranked mode gameplay.

The new gun is actually a returning firearm from Titanfall 2, the L-Star light machine gun. The L-Star can break down doors, and has immense firepower, so balancing for the gun is made through allowing the gun to only be found through care packages.

The new legend, meanwhile, is Wattson, a defensive or support-based character who can make electrical fences and turrets to help control choke points.

Season 2 begins on July 2.

Battlefield V

Battlefield V is getting some new maps for its Chapter 4: Defying the Odds expansion.

These include Al Sundan, a large sandbox set in Northern Africa that focuses on vehicle combat; Marita, an infantry-focused map set in Greece; and Operation Underground, a map set in a subway.

Al-Sundan is coming June 27 as the first map of Chapter 4. Marita is set to come out sometime in July, while Operation Underground releases in August.

The maximum level cap has also been increased from 50 to 500.

Later this year, DICE is releasing Chapter 5, which is set in the Pacific, pitting US and Japanese forces against each other. A “modern take” on Iwo Jima is said to be one of the maps coming, along with new weapons, gadgets, and vehicles.

FIFA 20. Aside from standard play, Volta Football brings the the game to the virtual streets. Screenshot from livestream

FIFA 20

Take your football skills back to the streets!

EA has confirmed that FIFA 20 features a street football mode called Volta Football. The mode lets you play 3 versus 3, 4 versus 4, and 5 versus 5 including Rush variations where there are no goalkeepers.

This year’s FIFA entry also comes with a number of improvements based on community feedback. The biggest change is said to be the new “Football Intelligence”, which improves three main components of a match: on the ball, off the ball, and ball physics.

On the ball enhances 1 on 1 moments, giving you new ways to attack and defend the ball. Off the ball, meanwhile, tweaks the game flow to improve user control in the game. Lastly, the new ball physics elevates how the ball behaves with each touch.

Madden NFL 20

Madden NFL 20 takes superstar players to a whole new level.

This year’s entry in the series beefs some of the league’s most elite athletes up with X-Factor abilities that make them feel unique and powerful. These abilities are inspired by the athlete’s own skills in reality.

The Sims 4

EA closed out the show with the reveal of The Sims 4’s new expansion, Island Living. The pack lets your Sims engage in new water activities, interact with dolphins, become a conservationist, and dress in island-wear, among other new features. It even includes mermaids that you can fully customize.

In celebration of pride month, EA is rolling out pride-related content across different Sims titles, starting with The Sims 4 on June 18.

It was also revealed that the next expansion pack is called Realm of Magic, which is due out sometime in fall this year. – Rappler.com
