MANILA, Philippines – BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), the well-known messaging service that was seen as a BlackBerry phone exclusive application, is heading to Google Play and the iOS App Store. A release date has been announced for BBM’s rollout on Android and iOS, and it’s not far away.
An announcement on the BlackBerry blog points to a September 21 release for BBM on Android, slated for 7 am EDT. The iOS version will be available beginning 12:01 am of September 22.
Aside from a unique PIN, features announced for the Android and iOS versions of BBM include the ability to share files over the app, group chatting functions, and a status update to inform people of how you are before they message you.
BBM on Android requires Android 4.x (Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean), while the iOS version will run on iOS 6 and iOS 7. – Rappler.com
