MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – In a new announcement on the Samsung Tomorrow blog, the company unveiled a new product that introduces flexible display technology to the mobile space: the Galaxy Round.
The Galaxy Round touts itself as the world’s first curved display smartphone, made using what they call the “world’s first commercialized full HD Super AMOLED flexible display.”
Like the Galaxy Note 3, the back cover uses a stitched leather design, which would give it a distinct feel.
The curved display of the Round also allows for a nifty little trick. Leaning the Round to one side horizontally lets you pull up a general status page with the date, time, battery life indicator, and missed call announcements, among others.
CNET notes the Galaxy Round’s specifications. Aside from the 5.7-inch display that allows for 1080p HD, the Round sports a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor, 32GB of internal storage, 3GB of RAM, and microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB of storage. It also comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. The device will run on Android 4.3.
The Galaxy Round is currently slated for sale only in Korea, coming in Luxury Brown. Pricing does not appear to have been revealed as press time. – Rappler.com
