MANILA, Philippines – With 2014 and the Consumer Electronics Show just around the corner, local smartphone manufacturer Starmobile is also gearing up for it’s next big announcement.
The company is set to unveil its first eight-core smartphone the Starmobile Diamond X1 this January 2014.
While the 6-inch Diamond X1 will be similar in size to the 5.7-inch Diamond V7 and the 6-inch Diamond S2, the device will be thinner at 7mm. Photos acquired by Rappler also reveal the Diamond X1 will have a more premium build and feel to it.
Starmobile confirms to Rappler the Diamond X1 will be powered by an eight-core 1.7 GHz MediaTek processor.
Announced last November, the MediaTek MT6592 chip on the Diamond X1 is supposedly the world’s first true octa-core mobile processor. The technology allows all 8 Cortex-A7 cores to operate simultaneously unlike the 8-core Exynos processor found in non-LTE models of the Samsung Galaxy S4 that only allow four cores to work at the same time.
Users will benefit from the faster processor with supported apps. MediaTek says the Chrome browser can already use all eight cores. Gameloft also says Modern Combat 5 has already been enhanced to support the new processor.
