MANILA, Philippines – Inspired by the opening sequence of “Definitely, Maybe” where Ryan Reynolds walks through New York wearing wireless earphones, Swedish designer Olle Lindén decided to turn a piece of imagined movie tech into reality via a Kickstarter campaign.
The device is called Earin, the “world’s smallest wireless earbuds” designed specifically for, “the best and most comfortable music experience possible. “

The earbuds literally look like typical in-ear earphones with the wires cut off and uses Bluetooth with aptX to communicate with a paired smartphone, but unlike other bluetooth devices it does not require a separate receiver/sensor.
A somehow similar attempt was done last year with “Split” which is both an earpiece and music player. But with only 256mb of memory and an asking price of $155, it did not reach its goal in Kickstarter.

Lindén’s team’s design fully utilizes nanotechnology squeezing in the Bluetooth chip into the tiny microscopic circuit board on the unit. Another secret to its size is the use of armature speakers, the same one used in professional in-ear monitors and hearing aids.

Rechargeable batteries are the biggest component and were the basis of the final size of the earphone. On a full charge Earin lasts only 2.5-3hrs but the accompanying storage capsule is rechargeable too so that it can be used to store and charge while on the go.
Earin reached its funding goal of roughly $304,000 within five days of launch, raising $680,000 to date. With 35 days left, it’s bright lights for Lindén and his team.
If all goes well in the production, Earin earphones are expected to ship out to its backers by January 2015. The device will be commercially available for roughly $250.
