MANILA, Philippines – Gionee, the third largest Chinese smartphone manufacturer in the world, opened its first concept store in Manila on Thursday, October 23.

The phone is available to potential buyers curious to check the handset out in the concept store at the Cyberzone area of SM Megamall. It is Gionee’s second store in the Philippines. The first one is at the Gaisano mall in Davao City, which opened in March 2014.

Also on display are two new handsets that Gionee hopes to do well against the rest of the Android devices currently out in the market.

ELife E7 mini – selfie smartphone

First is the ELife E7 mini – a phone made for selfie-takers thanks to its rotating 13 megapixel camera. The top-area of the phone can be rotated allowing a user to take selfies with high-resolution.

Don’t worry about flipping the camera times though as Gionee said the phone can handle unlimited rotations.

The E7 mini has 4.7-inch IGZO capacitive display protected by the scratch-resistant Dragontrail Glass. The phone runs Android 4.2 Jellybean and is set to get an upgrade to Android 4.4.2 KitKat by November 2014.

It has 16 gigabytes of internal storage but no microSD card slot to expand storage. The phone is powered by a 1.7 GHz Octa-core processor with one gigabyte of RAM.

GPad G5 – for movie lovers

The other phone on display is Gionee’s first handset that comes with Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box – the GPad G5.

With a 5.5-inch display and an audio system that features Digital Theater Sound (DTS) and Yamaha PA Dual Speakers, Gionee calls the phablet a must-have for movie lovers who are always on the go.

Editor’s Note: Earlier spec sheet showed the G5 had 13 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel main camera. Corrections have been made.

It has 8 gigabytes of internal storage with a microSD card slot that can support up to 32 gigabytes of extra storage.

Both the E7 mini and the G5 are have two micros-sim slots perfect for users who need two numbers but only want to use a single device. – Rappler.com
