MANILA, Philippines – Google on Tuesday, June 2, launched a new, centralized hub for managing one’s user account settings. It also introduced a site that answers questions about privacy and security when using Google.
The new “My Account” page offers more options on how private and secure you want your settings on Google services.
According to Google’s announcement, the My Account page lets users do the following, among other things:
- “Take the Privacy Checkup and Security Checkup, our simple, step-by-step guides through your most important privacy and security settings.
- “Manage the information that can be used from Search, Maps, YouTube and other products to enhance your experience on Google. For example, you can turn on and off settings such as Web and App Activity, which gets you more relevant, faster search results, or Location History, which enables Google Maps and Now to give you tips for a faster commute back home.
- “Use the Ads Settings tool to control ads based on your interests and the searches you’ve done.
- “Control which apps and sites are connected to your account.”
Another site, privacy.google.com, answers privacy and security-related questions regarding Google and its numerous services.
These include explanations of the type of data Google collects, the tools available to control how a user experiences Google, and how your information helps customize your Google experience.
The initiative follows Google’s push at its Google I/O conference to allow users more control over the information they give to apps and to other people. – Rappler.com
