Marshall joins the smartphone market with the London
What the London lacks in power, it makes up for in the sound department

MANILA, Philippines – Marshall, known for their guitar amplifiers, unveiled its first smartphone named after the brand’s place of origin – London.

The Marshall London stays true to the heritage look of the company. It stands out from the rest of the market thanks to the matte black cover that’s similar to the skins used in their amplifiers, with gold brass accents surrounding the phone prominently on the top M button and the side scroll wheel. This gives it a look of a genuine Marshall amplifier.

Inside, however, it’s a lacking smartphone for its price of SEK 4,995 ($590). A 4.7” 720p IPS display is topped with Gorilla Glass 3, running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 1.2Ghz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.

There’s 16GB of storage that’s expandable through a memory card slot, an 8 megapixel camera at the back, 2 megapixels for the front camera, and a 2500 mAh battery that’s removable. The London appeared to have skimped on other bells and whistles to focus on what matters to them most – audio.

There are two microphones for stereo recording while speakers occupy the top and bottom of the screen. Two stereo jacks are placed up top to share music with friends. London has the ability to have different volume levels for each while an analog scroll wheel at the side lets users have a precise adjustment of their volume.

The gold M button on top is a one-click access to the music player that can play high-resolution files, even FLAC, thanks to a Wolfson WM8281 Audio Hub sound card. London also employs a global equalizer to fine-tune the music with preset profiles or custom ones.

The Marshall London will come with the Marshall Mode in-ear earphones, set to be available in 22 countries. It’s available for pre-order now and will start going on sale in August. – Rappler.com
