MANILA, Philippines – This city will play host to what should be Southeast Asia's largest esports competition in 2016.
ESL Gaming is gearing up for ESL One Manila, a premium DOTA 2 tournament, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
ESL One Manila will be held from April 23 to 24 next year, with the grand prize being the lion's share of a $250,000 prize pool.
“Almost P12 million pesos are up for grabs at our next installment of ESL One and we’re all hoping for a team local to the region to step up to the plate and take home the lion’s share,” said Ulrich Schulze, Vice President Pro Gaming of ESL, in a statement.
"The Philippines has a strong history with DOTA 2, and so when discussing possible Asian events, the decision was an easy one to make. This is a country and community that loves DOTA 2, and we’re honored to be able to say we’re making history with this event: it’s the first event of its kind in the region and we can’t wait to see fan reactions to what we have in store,” he added.
ESL One will showcase talent from the top DOTA 2 teams in the world, along with a place reserved for a Philippine team.
According to the ESL One Manila website, tickets will be available for purchase at SM Tickets and SM Tickets outlets beginning 6 pm Manila time on Tuesday, December 8. Prices start at P500 ($10) for general admission, up to P5,000 ($106) for a Premium pass. – Rappler.com
