For Honor showcases epic sword battles + 9 other big Gamescom 2016 news
MANILA, Philippines – Gamescom 2016, one of the largest annual gaming conventions in Europe, has ended and it certainly did not disappoint. Huge gaming news, trailers, and demos were showcased at the event, which ran from August 17 to 21 at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. Throughout those five days, the industry event attracted half a million visitors from around the world with an event-record 877 exhibitors, according to the official Gamescom website tally. From those, here were some of the most exciting announcements made at the expo:
1) Konami continues the Metal Gear franchise with zombified Metal Gear Survive
Hideo Kojima may have left Konami but the Metal Gear series will live on, for better or worse. Following the acclaimed Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the new title will take place in an alternate universe – one that has some, get this, zombies.
Yes, Metal Gear has a dose of the undead now:
For now it seems that Metal Gear Survive is purely a multiplayer game that features four player co-op, similar to that of the Left 4 Dead series. It will have a new array of weapons while keeping its core stealth mechanics.
The game is scheduled for release next year for the Playstation 4, Xbox One and yes, master race PC.
2) New Resident Evil 7 (RE7) trailer reveals actual “found footage” style gameplay
While the RE7 demo,The Beginning Hour, shed some light on the concept of the newest Resident Evil title, its latest trailer showcased Resident Evil 7’s actual gameplay:
The titular "lantern" is one of the several VHS tapes that players will encounter in the game which serves to enrich the player’s understanding of the main narrative. Think audio and written logs upgraded into playable video ones.
In the gameplay trailer, a woman named Mia is stalked by an elder lady holding a lantern. The footage is shaky and fuzzy, likely to copy the style of old VHS videos.
Keep in mind that the lack of combat is not a reflection of the gameplay’s entirety. Producer Masachika Kawata previously explained at E3 2016 that combat, gunplay, and survival will still be at the very core of the game.
Resident Evil 7 arrives on January 24, 2017 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
3) Project Scorpio may be the end of console generations, according to Microsoft
During an interview with Engadget for Gamescom, Microsoft’s head of Xbox games marketing Aaron Greenberg implied that their next console dubbed Project Scorpio could spell the end of console generation.
“For us, we think the future is without console generations,” he stated. “We're making a pretty big bet on that with Project Scorpio. We're basically saying, "This isn't a new generation; everything you have continues forward and it works," he explained further.
Not much has been revealed about Xbox's Project Scorpio except that it can handle 4K resolution games and it is capable of VR. The console is slated for release during the holiday season of 2017.
4) EA is seriously considering a Mass Effect trilogy remaster
Mass Effect fans, rejoice! In an interview with Game Informer, Patrick Söderlund, the executive vice president of Electronic Arts (EA), acknowledged the demand for a remaster of the original Mass Effect trilogy and stated that the publishing giant is seriously considering the request of fans.
It was previously revealed that EA was not keen on remastering their games and have instead chosen to focus on their new IPs. However, due to the popularity of BioWare’s trilogy, EA will most likely give the game a chance.
“I can’t announce anything today, but you can expect us most likely to follow our fellow partners in Activision and other companies that have done this successfully,” he continued.
“I think there is even more clear evidence that this is something that people really want. The honest answer is that we are absolutely actively looking at it,” Söderlund said.
5) For Honor alpha testing on September, PC version being developed

The new mode, Battle Station, will have three parts. The first of which will have players flying and duking it out in space as X-Wings and A-Wings. The second phase will take players inside the iconic Death Star to locate R2-D2.
The scenario culminates with the player heading back to space to destroy Death Star.

The 50-minute video kicks off with Noctis and his companions facing an intimidating boss in a fiery level. It then cuts to different scenes such as the group having to push their vehicle, and running around the fields killing scorpions.
Keep in mind that the video, posted below, also features cutscenes which may reveal bits and pieces of the story. So watch it at your own risk.
