Here’s what we know so far about Titanfall 2
Meet BT-7274 and the titans you’ll encounter in Titanfall 2’s multiplayer mode

TOKYO, Japan – At the 2016 Tokyo Game Show, Respawn Entertainment’s COO Dusty Welch and Art Director Joel Emslie revealed more details about Titanfall 2, its story and its new titans.

Here’s what we found out about the game.

The new campaign mode and the titan protagonist

If you didn’t know already, Titanfall 2 will be having a single-player campaign mode, a mode that the first Titanfall never had. The single-player campaign mode features Jack Cooper and titan BT-7274, also known as “BT.”

Titan Pilot Trainee Jack and BT found themselves in a secret planet named Typhon after their fleet was beaten back in a previous battle. Their fleet was ambushed and the two were thrown “deep behind enemy lines.”

Jack was not the original pilot of BT. The original pilot, Captain Lastimosa, died during the conflict. “He gives you his helmet, and his titan BT-7274, and he asks you to complete his mission. So it’s up to you to become an actual Titan pilot and earn the trust of BT,” Emslie explained.

Emslie described BT as a “very special titan.” The Vanguard titan is the first of its kind with “a unique personality and a special set of abilities.” BT has the ability to absorb the powers of the bosses that you will encounter.

“Whenever BT encounters a boss character and defeats them, he’s able to synthesize the weapon and the load out of that boss character,” Emslie revealed.

You could play the game freely and opt to not use BT during certain situations. However, there will be parts in the campaign where the areas are too dangerous for you to not use your titan. Emslie also revealed that you can approach potential conflicts either stealthily and performing execution kills or going all out and weapons free.

They’ve also built the story mode as a way to train aspiring pilots for the multiplayer mode.

Titanfall 2’s multiplayer mode

Titanfall 2’s multiplayer is a result of fan feedback and really listening to the community,” Emslie said.

There are 6 titans in the multiplayer mode: Legion, Ion, Scorch, Ronin, Tone, and Northstar. The various titans have their own recognizable abilities and weaponry.

Legion can be considered a tank. His Gun Shield and Predator Cannon make it easy for him to hold a point in the map and defend it. Ion has a powerful arsenal with a Splitter Cannon and Vortex Shield which can grab enemy projectiles and relaunch it to the other direction. Scorch, as the name implies, has fiery incendiary weapons both for offense and defense.

Ronin is built for melee combat with a Sword Core perfect for slicing and dicing machines. Tone’s target-locking system can put an enemy down from afar. And last but not the least, Northstar. Pilots will find this titan tricky to take down because he can fly.

While six titans can also be found during the single player mode as bosses, BT won’t make an appearance in the multiplayer mode.

According to Emslie, the titans were designed “as if it were a Street Fighter game” where players will be able to distinguish each Titan during combat.

“You should be able to, in multiplayer mode, look at the titan from across the map and really understand what that titan can do. Same thing with pilots,” he said.

Don’t expect new titans soon after the game is released though. Emslie and Welch explained that the team is focused on finding the right balance in the game and maintaining it.

Another thing that can make titans easier to distinguish is their visuals. Emslie also revealed that due to fan demand, the team has incorporated customized visuals into the multiplayer mode features. With customized visuals you can trick out your titan whichever way you want to. The visuals range from standard neutral camouflages to colorful neon patterns.

Looking forward to Titanfall 2? The game will be released on October 28 and Emslie and Welch revealed that they will be sharing more news before Titanfall 2’s launch. – Rappler.com
