Destiny 2 for the PC: All we know so far
Here's what Rappler contributor Michaela Nadine Pacis knows about the PC version of Destiny 2 based on her time at the Destiny 2 gameplay reveal event

Along with the gameplay reveal of Destiny 2, Bungie and Activision also announced that the game will finally make it to PC.

While there were no specifics on the actual release date of the PC version, we were able to get acquainted with the game on the PC platform at the Destiny 2 gameplay reveal event.

Here’s what we have on the PC version of the game so far.

Destiny 2 will be available on Blizzard’s launcher

First things first, one of the big announcements during the keynote presentation was that the game will be available exclusively on the Blizzard App. For those unfamiliar, this would mean that the game will not be sold on Steam or other gaming clients such as uPlay and Origin.

This is a new step for Blizzard as their platform only hosts games that they developed themselves. According to Blizzard, the reason fors this is to allow “Bungie to focus their energy and resources on making the best and most fun game they possible can.”

Blizzard’s official statement also shared what gamers can expect with Destiny 2 being available on their app. “Destiny 2 players will have access to our social functionality, including chat with friends, the ability to see which of their friends are online in Destiny 2 or in Blizzard games, and the ability to stream gameplay directly to Facebook.”

It should also be noted that there will not be any dedicated servers for Destiny 2 on Blizzard.

The features

Aside from the standard content that gamers will come to expect for such a game, Activision also shared that the PC version of Destiny 2 will feature the following:

  • 4K Resolution Support
  • an uncapped framerate
  • full mouse and keyboard support with custom key mapping
  • text chat
  • an adjustable field of view
  • a detailed PC settings screen
  • 21:9 monitor support.

Quick impressions

Having been able to play the game’s Strike mode on PC, I’d say that Destiny 2 runs beautifully on PC with little to no hitches. The PC port feels excellent and FPS players can adjust and get used to the controls with less hassle.

However, if it does get a little complex or frustrating, especially when it comes to reviving dead teammates, the settings on the controls and everything else should be easy to change. The settings allow you to tweak a number of things, from mouse sensitivity, to depth of view, to control mapping.

The specs

While there was no official announcement on the required specs to run Destiny 2 , Activision was able to provide us with the details of the PC they used for the gameplay premiere:

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080Ti
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2 Ghz
  • 16GB Ram/500 GB SSD/Windows 10
  • Monitor: Predator XB1 27” 4K IPS with NVidia G-Sync [XB271HK]
