MANILA, Philippines – Love 18:9 phones but not the price? That argument is actually invalid now. Not only do we have the likes of Vivo and Oppo coming out with more justly priced 18:9 models, or Samsung with more affordable iterations of its Infinity Display, we now also have the Cloudfone Thrill Boost 3 – the cheapest 18:9 phone in the market right now. 

The price? P2,999. It feels exactly how a P3,000 phone might feel like. But that’s not to disparage it though. This could be one of the more attractive-looking ultra-budget phones right now, and that has a lot to do with the 18:9 screen. It’s slimmer, and that makes it instantly sleeker than its competitors.

We especially like the shade of red our loaner unit came in – it’s bright and bold, way prouder than what you’d expect from a phone in this range. There are other colors though – black and grey – if you’d like to be a little more discreet.

The Boost 3 comes equipped with a 5.45-inch FWVGA+ display with 960×480 resolution, a 1.3GHz Mediatek MT6580M quad-core chip, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage with up to 64GB microSD support, 5MP rear and front cameras with LED flash, a removable 2500mAh battery, and Android 7 Nougat.

The bad part: it doesn’t have 4G LTE support, which isn’t rare in this range. If you need the significant speed boost from 3G to 4G, you’ll have to go to the P7,000 price range. But if you’re fine with 3G, and just need a basic smartphone with a more modern look than most of its competitors, the Boost 3 may be right up your alley. – Rappler.com
