Here's a look at 3 of the most notable announcements likely to make a splash at Apple's September 9 event (September 10, 1 am, Manila time)

MANILA, Philippines – Apple will be announcing some new products and developments during its event on Tuesday, September 9 (Wednesday, September 10, 1 am, Philippine time).

number of sites have been reporting either leaks or speculations on the possible announcements, and Rappler has picked the 3 most important ones that you’ll want to take note of. Let’s get started.

A new iPhone

Apple is expected to reveal at least one new iPhone at the event, though two different-sized iPhones may also be in the cards. Wired notes a potential iPhone with a 4.7-inch display, while a second phone-tablet hybrid may come with a 5.5 inch display.

While there are leaked product specifications from China available on Cult of Mac, users should be wary of the leaked information. They should see for themselves if these information hold up against the official announcement.

Depending on the size of the announced iPhone, some phone features may shift, such as the placement of certain keys, to make it easier to use. A one-handed mode is also expected for the larger iPhone to make it more readily usable.

Related to this, there is also a rumor surrounding an Apple-specific mobile wallet. Apple, American Express, Mastercard, and Visa have reportedly teamed up to allow users to pay for goods and services using their phones. A leak reportedly showed a mobile payments option as part of an iOS 8 Passbook icon

iOS 8

Apple already showed off the upcoming operating system during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco back in June.

The company is expected to show off more features or an update to what they’ve been working on with regard to iOS 8

The Verge mentions that it’s less about making a visual change compared to iOS 7. Rather, it’s bundling up new features that can be used to better tie together Apple’s OS X desktop software with its other products, such as its computers.

Three notable features immediately come to mind. The first is Continuity, which will let people forward tasks done from one Apple computing machine – whether it’s a phone, computer, or tablet – to another connected Apple machine.

The second feature is Family Sharing. This would allow a family with the same credit card on file to share calendars, reminders, and photos across their various devices. You can also share iTunes-purchased music, apps, and other media bought by one family member, and parents can also set up approval notices before children purchase apps.

Lastly, a new app called Health will allow iOS 8 to track health statistics from third-party apps and then work in conjunction with other Health apps to provide users in the United States with information they can send their doctors regarding their health.

An Apple smartwatch

Many are speculating that Apple will be coming out with its own smartwatch, a wearable device that’ll run iOS 8 and work with the previously-mentioned Health apps to track a user’s fitness.

What might occur is that Apple will introduce its prototype design for the iWatch, then show how it works, and hopefully give prospective buyers more information to chew on, as not much is known about the fabled “iWatch.”

It is expected, however, to have a curved OLED display and come in two sizes. – Rappler.com
