Asus’ gaming brand ROG announced the latest in its line of gaming-centric phones, the ROG Phone 3, on Saturday, August 15.

As expected in an ROG-branded device marketed towards gamers, the phone packs impressive specs. It’s one of the few phones to have Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 Plus chip, and comes with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

A cheaper ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition will have a standard Snapdragon 865 chip but, like the 865 Plus, is also 5G-capable.

The jewel in the crown for the phone though is its 144Hz AMOLED display with 1ms response time. It’s the first phone in the Philippine market, and perhaps in other markets too, to have such a display. The Samsung S20 phones back in February introduced 120Hz phone displays, but ROG is topping that number.

These specs – 16GB of RAM, 144Hz displays, 1 ms response time – are numbers you’d usually see in ROG laptops. Just on sheer numbers, the phone looks to push performance in a mobile device, but is especially looking to attract fans of mobile shooters where a 144Hz refresh rate may matter.

The phone also has a 270Hz touch sampling rate. Comparatively, flagship phones such as the iPhone 11, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra have a 120Hz and 240Hz touch sampling rate. It’s a number that’s tied to how fast the response of the touch panel is, and how smooth it can track your finger’s movement on the screen.

Powering the phone is a 6,000 mAh battery.
