Samsung on Thursday, January 14, announced a new pair of true-wireless earphones, the Galaxy Buds Pro.

The Buds Pro, design-wise, is an evolution of last year’s Galaxy Buds Plus. It will feature improvements on audio call quality, sound, active-noise cancellation (ANC), and device connectivity. The earphones will also have a new feature that allows for 4 levels of ambient sound control.

“When you need to focus on work – or tune out from the world around to relax – you can reduce the background noise by up to 99%, fine-tuning to your preferred level. And with Ambient Sound, you can choose to amplify nearby sounds by more than 20 decibels, meaning you can adjust and personalize according to your needs,” Samsung said.

The earphones also have intelligent capabilities including the ability to recognize when you’re speaking, and is able to switch between cancelling nearby sounds or amplifying them. The music will be turned down when you want to talk.

Samsung also explains how they’ve designed smarter connections between the earphones and other Galaxy devices: “For example, if you’re watching a video on your Galaxy Tab S7 and then receive a call on your Galaxy S21, the all-new Auto Switch feature will pause the video and let you answer the phone using Galaxy Buds Pro.

Once the call is over, your earbuds instantly switch back to your tablet; the video plays again, and you can hear the audio through your earbuds again.”

The earphones are equipped with 3 microphones that separate your voice from unwanted external noises when talking, and a new “Wind Shield” technology that reduces the noise from wind going through the earphones when you go for a run, for example. The earphones have a less protrusive shape as well compared to the Galaxy Buds Plus, which is said to further minimize wind contact.

The earphones are also protected with an IPX7 water resistance rating, the highest standard of water resistance in the Galaxy Buds line, which can only be good news for people who want to exercise with the device.

A new SmartThings Find feature can also help locate either of your earbuds, even when out of Bluetooth range or out of sight.

The earphones support 360 audio with Dolby Head Tracking, which simulates an immersive 360-degree audio environment. The Galaxy Buds Pro and the Galaxy S21 phones’ mics can also be synchronized, with Pro recording the voice and the S21 phone recording the surrounding noise.

The Pro features 8 hours of playback, with an additional 20 hours of reserve power available in the wireless charging case. When using ANC, the Pro has 5 hours of playback with 13 hours more available in the case. The earphones can provide one hour of playtime after 5 minutes of quick charging. 

Pre-order details

The Pro will be available in phantom black, phantom silver, and phantom violet. It will be exclusively available for pre-order at P9,990 on Samsung.com from January 18 until January 28.
