Samsung introduces exercise analysis feature to 2021 TVs

Samsung introduced a new feature for at-home fitness buffs at CES 2021 on Monday, January 11. Smart Trainer is an addition to the Samsung Health app available for Samsung TVs, which allows the TV to monitor a person’s exercise movements through an optional webcam.

The feature is said to be able to monitor exercise form, provide encouragement, and display metrics such as estimated calories burned and the counting of repetitions.

“Samsung Health seamlessly transforms the home into a personal gym, and the new Smart Trainer feature tracks and analyzes posture in real time, just like a personal trainer. During and post-workout, Smart Trainer provides feedback on form, helps you count your reps, and estimates calories burned.

With video and interactive training via Bixby-enabled voice control, Samsung Health Smart Trainer elevates and personalizes the home workout experience,” Samsung said.

CNET, in their test of the feature, said that “it seemed to work well.” The writer described the TV telling him where exactly to stand, taking just a second to recognize him.

The writer chose to do jumping jacks, and when he was running out of breath, an on-screen message let him know, and provided encouragement as well.

The feature will be available on all of Samsung’s 2021 TVs. Apart from TVs, Samsung also introduced a 4-door smart refrigerator, and a smart vacuum using LIDAR (light detection and ranging) technology. – Rappler.com
