Sony on Monday, January 11, unveiled its first entry in a new product category for the company: drones.
The Sony Airpeak's unique selling point is that it's custom-designed to carry a Sony Alpha mirrorless camera. Sony hasn't specified which models will be supported but it did mention "full-frame aerial photography and video."
Sony's line of full-frame mirrorless cameras are some of the leaders in the category so integration with a Sony drone will have appeal for imaging enthusiasts and professionals.
Sony says that the Airpeak is the "industry's smallest class of drone that can be equipped with the Alpha system, is capable of dynamic filming and precise, stable flight, and aims to contribute to the world of entertainment while also pursuing new possibilities for creative expression."
Expect the product to come out in "spring 2021."
Sony also said it plans to "launch a new business targeted for professional photography and video production" in the same time period.
Updates on the Airpeak will be posted on a Sony page here. – Rappler.com
