Nintendo on Tuesday, July 6, announced a new OLED model for its Switch line of consoles, set for an October 8 launch.

The OLED model, priced at $349.99, will have a size similar to the original Switch but will have a 7-inch OLED display instead of the regular 6.2-inch LCD display. OLED displays are known for having more vivid colors and higher contrast.

The original Switch came out in March 2017 for $299.99.

The OLED Switch will come with a wide adjustable stand for tabletop mode, along with a new dock that has a wired LAN port. It has a bigger internal storage of 64GB compared to the 32GB in the original.

Nintendo also mentioned in its press release that the console will come out on the same day as the Metroid Dread game, the most anticipated title being published by Nintendo this year.

“The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode,” said Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser.

Like the original Switch, the OLED model can be played in TV mode, tabletop mode, and handheld mode. The Switch Lite, released in 2019, didn’t come with a TV mode or detachable Joy-Con controllers.

The Switch OLED will launch with two color options. The white set will have white Joy-Con controllers, a black main unit, and a white dock. The neon red/neon blue set will have neon red and blue controllers, a black main unit, and a black dock. – Rappler.com
