PS5 launches in PH on December 11 for P27,990

Sony on Wednesday, November 11, announced that their new console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5) arrives in the Philippines on December 11, 2020, priced at P27,990.

The model currently announced for the Philippines is the one with an Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive. There is another model called the PS5 Digital Edition, which doesn't come with a disc drive.

The P27,990 price tag doesn't stray too far from the US suggested retail price of $499.

The PS5 Digital Edition is priced at $399. There is no word yet whether this variant will officially come to the Philippines.

The December 11 Philippine launch is about a month after the US launch of November 12. Historically, PlayStation consoles didn't have official launches in the Philippines, and Filipino gamers typically had to buy imported units – even months after the US launch – which usually cost far more than the standard sticker price.

PS5 titles will be priced from P2,490 to P3,490. Titles costing P3,490 represent an increase in the price, with few games from the previous PS4 generation ever breaching the P3,000-mark. In the US, some games were expected to rise from $59 to $69.

Sony also announced the prices of PS5 accessories:

  • DualSense wireless controller (standalone) – P3,990
  • PULSE 3D wireless headset – with 3D audio support and dual noise-cancelling microphones – P5,590
  • HD Camera with dual 1080p lenses – P3,290
  • DualSense Charging Station for charging two DualSense wireless
    controllers – P1,690

These are the titles coming from Sony that will be available on the day of the Philippine launch:

Astro’s Playroom (Japan Studio) – pre-installed on PS5
Demon’s Souls (Bluepoint Games / Japan Studio) – P3,490
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Insomniac Games) – P2,490
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition (Insomniac Games) – P3,490
Sackboy A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital / XDEV) – P2,990
